This is very general problem occurring now onwards because all the video camera manufacturing companies did is they divided the meta-file(clip info) and clip. When you record any movie it will keep the info of the clip in meta-file(i.e. in clip info) folder and will separate the clip in different folder say "STREAM". So if you have recorded the long file of say 1 hour in an avchd camcorder and that also in full hd so it will take nearly 10 gb of capacity. Disk is made up of track and sectors so the clip is stored in different sectors and different tracks.
Now when you open the avchd folder you will see that no. of clips have been increased even though you have stopped recording after a very long duration. This will occur if you are recording a very long clip if the clip is of less then 15 mins this issue won't arrive.
Even sometimes when you drag and drop that clips to some editing platform say Grass Valley Edius you will see that uncertain improper duration of the video recorded. If the video is of 2.30 hours you will sometimes find above 4.00 hours so this is the very big problem. You even can't judge where's the problem when you move over the timeline you will find that all the clips are dropped properly so where's the issue. Even sometimes the clips order (sorting) will change the clip which was shot in end that came in the beginning when dropped on timeline.
To solve this issue
Edius : You must require edius above version 6.0 (Edius 6.0). If you are using the older version that is 5.5 or below in which you are familiar, your problem won't get solved. You must require edius 6.0. In edius 6.0 there is View Button available in menubar, over there is option called source browser click on that. Source Browser window will appear after that if you have attached the card in which avchd clips were recorded than it will directly appear into Removable device option else if you have copied it to the harddisk than "Right click" in the left side empty area of the source browser there's the option called open folder than just select the avchd folder. All the clips will open up cleanly. your 1 hour clip will open completely joined and all the clips will appear that can be sorted by right clicking on the right side bar of the source browser window, then whichever clip you wan't to use you can use the option that is Add to bin available above the source browser window, it will import all the clips into the bin window.
Note : If you are copying the clips from the avchd camcorder than you need to copy all the folders inside the avchd folder if you haven't copied all the folder than you cannot import the clips neatly and cleanly.
Premier Pro : In premier pro you have to use the premier pro cs6, i donno about the lower versions but work can be easily done in adobe premier pro cs6. In premier pro there is window named Media Browser available on the left hand side of the timeline. If Media browser window is not available the you can get that from window menu. Open click on the avchd folder it will display all the files the files neatly and cleanly.
Note : If you are copying the clips from the avchd camcorder than you need to copy all the folders inside the avchd folder if you haven't copied all the folder than you cannot import the clips neatly and cleanly.
Final Cut Pro : In final cut pro you can use log and transfer functionality. In file button in menubar there is option Log and Transfer. If you have inserted the card it will directly open that card neatly and cleanly directly you just need to select which clips you want to edit and click add selection to queue, it will import all the selected files into the project window. By default it will import the clips into Apple ProRes 422 but if you want to edit settings you can click on setting button(*) available in the right top corner in log and transfer window. FCP import the clips and create the new clips of the files that is the bad point if you are having very less memory.
Note : Final cut pro copies the selected file into the project folder. If you are copying the clips from the avchd camcorder than you need to copy all the folders inside the avchd folder if you haven't copied all the folder than you cannot import the clips neatly and cleanly.
